Lincoln Chafee was born on the 26th of March in 1953 in the family of John and Virginia Chafee. His father was Republican Governor and Senator. His mother worked as environmental activist. He also has three brothers and two sisters. One of his sisters, Tribbie, died in a car accident. His native city is Providence (Rhode Island). There he visited public and private schools, before he entered Phillips Academy. There Linc Chafee was a classmate of Jeb Bush.

After graduating from Public Academy, the future politician entered Brown University, where he got degree in Classics.

He also attended horseshoeing school and started his career as a blacksmith. He worked as a farrier during 7 years. Then, in 1985, he decided to follow his father’s sample and become a politician. At first Lincoln Chafee was elected as a delegate of Rhode Island Constitutional Convention. A year later he became the member of Warwick City Council.

In 1992 Lincoln Chafee was elected as the mayor of Warwick. In 1999 he got an opportunity to enter United States Senate. Unfortunately, it was connected with unexpected tragical death of his father.  Senator, John Chafee, died in October, 1999 from heart failure. His son, Lincoln, was appointed instead of his father to serve till the end of his term. In 2000 he was elected as senator for the full term. That very time his political views changed. He began his career as republican, but most of his political views were of democratic origin. He was the only one Republican Senator, who voted against authorizing American forces in Iraq.
